A firm fixture on the Greater Manchester running calendar, Tameside, Oldham and Glossop's iconic running festival is back for 2025 and this year the event takes place from Thursday 12th – Sunday 15th June.
The Tour is a cracking four-day running event in Manchester, exploring the very best routes, trails and challenges across Tameside, Oldham and Glossop. With 4 epic runs to complete over 4 consecutive days, Full Tour runners are signing up in droves to get a place on the legendary event and experience a variety of stunning terrains and challenging routes this summer.
This year’s event is set to be bigger than ever, marking 10 years since the return of The Tour. The 4-day race event was adapted from the original 7-day Tour of Tameside, founded by marathon legend Dr Ron Hill MBE in 1981, and billed as “the toughest challenge in British Athletics.”
While the Full Tour as it’s now known remains as challenging as ever with 50km of running back-to-back over 4 days, the event is accessible to runners of all abilities, with the option to choose individual races and improve your 10k race time or complete your first-ever half marathon on a 13.1 mile journey taking in the breathtaking views from the Longdendale Trail.
New runners, children and families can even run their first ever mile race on the last day of the Dr Ron 7-Mile race in Hyde, with the local community bringing lots of camaraderie and encouragement to up to 500 local runners on the day.

Stage 1 – The X-Trail (10k) Thursday 12th June
The Tour kicks off with a stunning 10k route across a variety of challenging terrain as the route heads through Daisy Nook and Park Bridge Country Parks in Oldham, providing a brilliant and challenging test to runners of all abilities. This race takes place in the evening and offers a great opportunity to compete against runners from across the borough.
Stage 2 – Hell on the Fell (6-Mile Race) Friday 13th June
It’s not called Hell on the Fell for nothing! This iconic and exhilarating evening run is a serious challenge, taking place on a variety of roads and taking in the best of the local hills, starting in Stalybridge then heading up to the Trigg point on Copley Fell. You’ll be rewarded for your efforts with fantastic views and a brilliant atmosphere throughout.
Stage 3 – The Hero Half (13.1 miles) Saturday 14th June
A brilliant run for your first half marathon or to test your longer-distance ability. The Hero Half takes place in the morning into the afternoon and sees runners embark on a 13.1 mile journey along the (mostly!) flat terrain of the Longdendale Trail offering a perfect for achieving a PB time - if your legs have survived Hell on the Fell!
Stage 4 – Dr Ron Hyde 7-Mile Race & My First Mile – Sunday 15th June
The last leg of the Tour takes runners in and around Hyde town centre and is a perfect race for new and experienced runners alike, as the course follows roads and tarmac paths. This event also features a MyFirstMile race for first-time runners and children looking to finish their first mile. The event finishes with a trophy presentation for the Full Tour winners.
